Our vegetable (bark) tanned sheepskin hides are specifically developed for saddlery lining applications, offering a natural, durable and traditional solution for saddle makers, leatherworkers, and repairers.
Proudly tanned in our Melbourne tannery, these hides are processed using a pure vegetable tanning method, resulting in a firmer leather structure that is ideal for saddlery use. Unlike chrome-tanned alternatives, vegetable tanned sheepskin has the ability to mould to the underside of the saddle, providing a better fit, improved contact, and enhanced comfort over time.
Each hide features a dense, soft wool fleece that helps reduce friction while maintaining breathability, making it well suited for high-contact areas.
To maximise usability, all skins are toggled (stretched) for saddlery usage in mind during tanning, increasing the width and providing better yield when cutting for saddle panels and lining work.
